Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Bible Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. I found many of the techniques he mentioned very helpful, and the sample code and other goodies on the included CD-ROM made it a great reference. It is called the SQL Server 2000 Bible because it is truly a book that starts at the beginning and takes you through some very intricate details, and can be reread as your level of expertise increases. I found the topics intriguing, and the book certainly can serve as a great reference. I guess the old saying isn't true, since this old dog learned a few new tricks from this book. I highly recommend this to any SQL Server professional, regardless of experience level. It stays on my desk at all times..and should be on yours as well.
This book is an amazingly clear and concise book, especially for the "non-gurus" among us. The explanations of general topics like normalization, the history of markup languages (in the XML section) are so well written you could give them to management and even they would understand what you are doing (maybe that's not such a good idea). Full of tidbits like why transaction logs grow so much faster than data files. Nielson writes about SQL Server 2000 as used in the real world, not just as an interesting piece of technology. Bravo! I would give it 10 stars if I could. I leave nitpicking to the gurus.
The content of SQL Server 2000 Bible is expertly written and presented. Author Paul Nielsen is completely deserving of the kudos he's getting on these pages. I find there are examples of everything I'm looking for buried somewhere in this book.
Essential book for anyone looking for broad, indepth information on SQL. This book might be a little tough for the beginner that isn't familar at all with SQL, but it makes a great book after you read something like SQL for dummies. SQL for dummies hits the highlights and this book good into the topic areas in great detail. I would recommend it as the second training book or as a reference book for the experienced user. It is fairly easy to read and understand.
Great book for the price. Loads of valuable information. Would recommend to anyone learning about SQL, databases etc. Yeah buddy
This book is GREAT!! This book has it all, but I was mostly impressed with all the SQL samples that show creative set-based solutions. This book shows tons of ways to use joins and subqueries to perform tasks usually performed by cursors. A GREAT addition to your library!
